Talk on Responses of Children with Parental Loss

Professor Christ was invited to give the annual Grace Brody Lecture on Parent-Child Relations at Case Western Reserve University today. Grace spoke about the “Developmental Patterns of Children’s Responses to Parental Illness and Loss” at an event which took place at the Mandel School of Applied Sciences at CWRU in Cleveland, Ohio.

Slide Presentation at Columbia University

Dianne Kane of the FDNY-CSU co-presented today with Professor Christ at the Columbia University School of Social Work’s Wednesday Series presentation. Entitled “Post 9/11 Intervention with Firefighters and their Families: Lessons Learned Through University and Public Agency Collaboration,” Grace and Dianne provided an overview of the family program and answered questions from interested social workers.

Book Signing and Launch

Professor Christ joined co-authors Dianne Kane, Malachy Corrigan, Paul Green, and Sallie Lynch at the book launch party held today at the Fire Department Museum of New York. The book is entitled “FDNY Crisis Counseling: Innovative Responses to 9/11 Firefighters, Families, and Communities” and published this month by Wiley.

Panel on Disasters & Disparities

Professor Christ participated in a panel discussion today in Washington, D.C. at the national office of NASW. The discussion was entitled “Disasters & Disparities as it Relates to Social Work and NASW” and was held to discuss disaster preparedness, assistance, recovery, as well as community disparities after a disaster.

Grace H. Christ, DSW is Associate Professor at Columbia University School of Social Work, and author of Healing Children's Grief: Surviving a Parent's Death from Cancer. She was formerly Director of Social Work at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center.

Professor Christ is Director of the FDNY-CSU / Columbia University Family Guidance Program, and co-wrote this new book describing the process of developing services with the Fire Department.

Professor Christ has also been leading the effort to develop the Social Work Hospice / Palliative Care Network, an organization which grew out of the Social Work Leadership Development Awards, funded by the Soros Foundation's Project on Death in America.
